Case Study – Barn Conversion – Somerset

This large contemporary barn conversion has been designed and remodelled to the highest standard.

The developer chose Total Aluminium Solutions due to our vast experience supplying large panel bonded sliding doors.  Being an approved Cortizo fabricator gave further confidence in our abilities and the profile solutions we proposed.  In this instance Cortizo was chosen for the slim site lines on the patio doors and the concealed vent profile on the tilt and turn profile, it then made sense to fabricate all the products from the same system.

The architects design on this project was driven by a desire to create large expansive rooms that maximised light and space throughout.  With an incredible attention to detail the following products were chosen for their ablility to deliver to this brief.

Key design features

• Open Corner Sliding Door
• Due to the concealed sash tilt and turn windows, all window designs look the same whether fixed or opening
• Attention to the structural detailing of the large panel glazing above the sliding doors to keep this element as thin as possible. We detailed a hanging curtain walling system to reduce the dead load to the steel beam, great collaboration between the architect, structural engineers, developer and our design them to create these features
• Large proportion of floor to ceiling glass with the glass designed as the barrier load
• Detailing of the flat glass roof lights and the bonded glass structure to integrate with the zinc cladding to create a water tight structure
