Project Details
The Building
Built in 1938 as a factory for the American pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, this striking building was used as a factory by them until 2007 when the company decided to end its operations there. Having remained empty for the next decade and falling into disrepair. Our customers client took on a project to convert the floors into luxury art deco apartments.
The Project
Our client Amazon Windows came to us with a requirement to replace all windows and entrance doors, maintaining the iconic look and feel but also keeping within a value engineered budget.
The Solution
We manufactured and supplied the following:
332 x Smart 300 profile windows
6 Smart Alitherm Plus Doors
4 Smart Wall Commercial Doors
Due to the design of a vertical mullion and transoms the project was very labour intensive, however this method gave the desired look without having to bring a lot of couplers into the design which would change the desired site lines.
Due to the size of the windows on the building we had to consider the drainage of the windows and increased the amount of drainage above our standard design.
We proposed the Smart 300 system due to the size of openings and the strength required in the system, the project was price sensitive and value engineered. The architect had designed the new window proposal with an approximate profile size he would like to see, the profiles we proposed were very close, without the need to go to a more expensive system that was originally specified.
